"White Medicine Woman"

The White Medicine Woman

Rebecca was well taught on the bible

       And she had strong convictions

It may have been through the church in town

That she learned of the Lakota’s afflictions

Yet there was prejudice against the Sioux

       That seemed unfair and cruel

Rebecca quickly learned

       Of the townsfolk’s attitude

Here in the Dakotas

On land that was once theirs

The Indians were unwelcome

       Still…they were forced to share

Rebecca found it hard to reason

       Nor did she approve

For she found no fault

With the children of the Lakota Sioux
