"White Medicine Woman"

Paying Respects

I planned to travel to South Dakota

       That summer for the ceremony

But in March, I had an accident that

       Caused me to miss it, sadly

I was laid up with serious injuries

       So, I simply had to wait

In September I finally made it

       Although I was a few months late

Unable to drive due to my injuries

       I took the train instead

And so I enjoyed a leisurely ride

       Heck, I even had a bed

I was looking forward to meeting

       The Ottmans and their son Bill

Via email, we’d worked together

       To get a fence around the sentinel
